The Rescue!


Last Episode Recap: The gangs of the Sump crashed a Cultist fundraising event. Most of the Cult died, to plasma. The 'final form' of Father Guttenburg was then revealed, as a giant pink but deadly demon creature. As too much time had been spent painting the Cultists (despite contrast paints) for them just to appear in just one game, the giant pink demon creature picked up one of the Delaque gangers and took him to their underground lair. The ganger was way too expensive in points to drop from the gang roster and so a rescue was undertaken!

A surrounded Delaque ganger, upon being told "we have such sights to show you" by a fat man in a pointy hat and thong.


There was little enthusiasm for the rescue and only a small group of Delaque infiltrated the Cult underground lair. Fortunately only a small group of sentries stood guard, and one of these was armed with a bow & arrow.

The sentries fared poorly, inexplicably walking backwards towards suspicious noises approaching down the corridor. The snippy rending boi sits and awaits rescue in his cell. His fellow 'Nacht Gul' (to give their official title!) approaches down the corridor. He would charge and hilariously miss the guard despite him being unawares and looking in the opposite direction (in game explanation: the Gul slipped over a discarded copy of Razzle magazine as he approached). Despite then being chopped to ribbons, the guard would raise the alarm, alerting the rest of the Cult.


The dice gods decide the fate of one sentry. He would go on to accidentally shoot his own Cult Overseer in the back, wounding him and leading to a 'needs improvement' rating in his end-of-year performance plan.


Annoyed by having his Saturday evening 'film night' (Porky's Revenge) interrupted by the rescue attempt, the Overseer charges into combat with the Nacht Gul. Once again the Nacht Gul made a meal of it, but did eventually down the Overseer. Despite losing both arms and his head to power-sword strokes, this was determined to be 'Battle Wounds' by the after battle injury chart.


The Nacht Gul himself then went down to a hail of machine-gun fire, fired by a Cultist responding to the alarm. I didn't take a photo of that but this is what happened.


This write-up is getting too long and the battle mist then overtook me, so no more photos, but this is what happened in the rest of the game:

- A pair of Delaque gangers managed to force the cell door. Their leader kept watch, gunning down approaching Cultists, while the rest escaped.

- One Cultist with his grenade launcher proved the weapon is massively OP by flattening everyone he shot at, although it helped the escaping Delaque were in 'grenade formation'.

- The Cultist with a bow and arrow actually managed to hit a ganger, but to no effect, and then got blown to pieces.

- The Delaque gang and their rescued Nacht Gul managed to escape! XP all around! But the toll in injuries had been heavy on both sides; fortunately (unfortunately?), there were no serious injuries or deaths, and both gang will be at full strength for the next under-sump fight.


So what pleasures were shown to the captured ganger? Some chocolate. A Wagon Wheel, stored in a stasis field and said to have been in the pocket of Sanguinius at the moment of his death to the arch-traitor Horus. It was really delicious, and the Delaque ganger will not soon forget it.

There was meant to be a daemonette in the cell when the rescuing gang arrived. Or would have been, if it hadn't been £15 on ebay for a single out-of-production miniature, fuck me!
